What is Yoga Nidra

Not guided relaxation.
A precise science of consciousness.

Yoga Nidra practice session

Yoga Nidra — literally "yogic sleep" — is an ancient science rooted in the Tantric tradition that systematically guides a practitioner through four states of awareness until the deepest layers of the mind become accessible. In that state, transformation happens that nothing else can reach.

Modern neuroscience now confirms what the ancient texts described: the hypnagogic state — the threshold between waking and sleep — is the most receptive state of human consciousness for deep change. One hour of Yoga Nidra delivers the restorative equivalent of four hours of sleep.

"Yoga Nidra is the dimension that most people have never reached — and once experienced, they never stop seeking. It is the practice that makes everything else work deeper."

— Ashwani Deswal · Self Mastery Guide · RYT-500 · IPHM Accredited
The Science of Consciousness

Yoga Nidra takes you through
all four states of awareness.

Most people spend their entire lives in only the first. This certification teaches you to guide others through all four.

β
Beta — Waking
Ordinary conscious awareness. Analytical, thinking mind. Where most people live all day.
α
Alpha — Relaxed
Light meditation. Body begins to release. Mind becomes more receptive and creative.
Yoga Nidra lives here
θ
Theta — Hypnagogic
The threshold between waking and sleep. The most powerful state for transformation and healing available to a waking mind.
δ
Delta — Deep Sleep
Body completely asleep. In Yoga Nidra, awareness remains. This is the fourth dimension of the 4D Self Mastery System.

A Yoga Nidra teacher guides people from Beta through Alpha into the Theta state — with awareness maintained throughout. Most people have never experienced this. Once they do, they return to it again and again. This is why Yoga Nidra teachers build deeply loyal student followings.

Common Questions

Before you enrol

Do I need to have practiced Yoga Nidra before? +
Experience is helpful but not required. Many of the most dedicated students in previous batches came with very little experience. What matters is your genuine draw toward the practice and your willingness to practice daily from Day 1.
Do I need a yoga teaching background (RYT-200/500)? +
No. While many students are yoga teachers, it is not a prerequisite. The program is open to coaches, therapists, wellness professionals, healthcare practitioners, or dedicated personal practitioners.
How is this different from a 2-day Yoga Nidra workshop? +
A weekend workshop gives you an introduction. This 8-week program gives you the complete Bihar school methodology, neuroscience, clinical and corporate applications, script-writing skills, voice training, and a business launch module. You graduate as a qualified teacher — not someone who attended a workshop.
Can I teach Yoga Nidra in corporate settings after this? +
Yes — and Module 7 is dedicated to this specifically. Chair Yoga Nidra for offices, 20-minute corporate protocols, and how to present Yoga Nidra as a science to corporate HR and leadership teams. Almost no other Yoga Nidra certification covers corporate delivery in this depth.
Can anyone directly pay and enrol? +
No. We carefully select participants. Every applicant first schedules a clarity call with our team. Since each batch consists of only 4–5 participants, we assess background, intent, and readiness. In some cases, a psychological assessment may also be sent. All steps are designed with respect for every participant's time and intention.
What is the online Yoga Nidra library and how does it work? +
During the program you write and record 6+ original Yoga Nidra scripts in your own voice. The business module teaches you how to sell these as individual downloads or a subscription library — the most passive and scalable income stream available to a Yoga Nidra teacher.
When does the course start and how long do I have access? +
The course begins within 9 days of payment processing. You retain access to the learning dashboard until you receive your certification. The program offers multiple start dates throughout the year to accommodate various schedules and time zones.
Can I pay in instalments? +
Yes, there is an option to pay in instalments, making the program financially accessible. Payments can also be made via bank transfer. Specific fee details are shared during the clarity call with our enrolment team.
Why are batches limited to a few people? +
This program requires Ashwani Deswal to give close attention to each student's practice development — their guiding voice, personal experience of the states, and script quality. This depth of attention is only possible with small batches. It is why graduates emerge as genuinely capable teachers rather than people who attended a course.
Is there an exam at the end of training? +
Yes. IPHM evaluation is based on four areas: attendance and engagement in live sessions, self-study consistency, weekly quiz performance, and practicals — how well you perform in your live sessions with real clients. All four areas are observed throughout the program, not just at the end.
What is the difference between Yoga Nidra and sleep? +
In ordinary sleep, consciousness is absent — you are unaware of what is happening. In Yoga Nidra, the body enters a state of complete physical rest (similar to deep sleep) while the mind remains in a state of alert, witnessing awareness. This combination of deep physical relaxation with maintained mental consciousness is what makes Yoga Nidra unique and profoundly effective. One hour is said to deliver the restorative equivalent of four hours of ordinary sleep.
What is the difference between Yoga Nidra and meditation? +
Meditation typically requires effort — maintaining focus, returning attention, sustaining concentration. Yoga Nidra requires none of this. The practitioner is guided into a passive, receptive state where the practice does the work. Meditation operates primarily in Alpha and early Theta brainwave states; Yoga Nidra is specifically designed to anchor consciousness in the Theta state, which is far deeper and more therapeutically powerful. Both are valuable — Yoga Nidra is not superior, but it is distinct.
Is Yoga Nidra teacher training recognised internationally? +
Yes. This program is accredited by IPHM — International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine — which is recognised in India, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, and beyond. The certification allows you to teach professionally in wellness studios, corporate settings, hospitals, and online platforms in any of these countries. It is one of the few Yoga Nidra certifications in India that carries this level of international credibility.
Can Yoga Nidra help with anxiety and insomnia? +
Yes — and this is one of the most well-researched applications of Yoga Nidra. Clinical studies have shown significant reduction in anxiety, stress, and insomnia symptoms with regular Yoga Nidra practice. It works by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing cortisol levels, and allowing the mind to process and release suppressed tension. Module 6 of this program covers clinical and therapeutic applications in depth, including protocols specifically designed for anxiety, sleep disorders, and burnout.
What is the Bihar School of Yoga and why does it matter? +
The Bihar School of Yoga was founded by Swami Satyananda Saraswati, the teacher who systematised the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra into its modern form in the 20th century. The Bihar school methodology — with its precise 8-stage structure — is the most rigorously documented and widely respected framework for Yoga Nidra in the world. This program teaches the complete Bihar school system. Most weekend workshops and online courses only teach a simplified or partial version; this is a key reason why this certification is genuinely different.
How much can a Yoga Nidra teacher earn in India? +
This varies considerably by format and context. Individual 1:1 sessions typically range from ₹3,000 to ₹10,000+ per session. Corporate programs — which this certification specifically prepares you for — can range from ₹15,000 to ₹1,00,000+ per engagement. Wellness studio classes typically earn ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 per session. Online recorded libraries, once created, generate passive recurring revenue. The business module of this program covers pricing, positioning, and income stream strategy in detail.
What is a Sankalpa in Yoga Nidra and how is it used? +
A Sankalpa is a short, positive resolve or intention — a seed statement planted in the mind at the most receptive moment in the practice. In Yoga Nidra, the Sankalpa is offered twice: once near the beginning (during the internalisation stage) and once again near the end (just before externalisation). At these moments, the mind is in the Theta state — the most receptive state available to a waking human consciousness. In this state, a Sankalpa bypasses the analytical mind and is received directly by the unconscious, making it far more powerful than ordinary intention-setting or affirmation practice.
Can I teach Yoga Nidra online after this certification? +
Yes — and this is one of the greatest advantages of Yoga Nidra as a practice. Because the guided session is delivered verbally (the practitioner lies still with eyes closed), it translates perfectly to online delivery. There is no loss of quality compared to in-person. You can conduct live 1:1 sessions, group classes, and corporate workshops entirely online. The program also teaches you how to record and distribute your guided sessions as a digital product — generating income that is completely independent of your time.
How is Yoga Nidra different from hypnosis? +
Both work with altered states of consciousness, but there are important differences. Hypnosis typically involves the practitioner delivering suggestions to a subject who is in a passive, receptive state — the goal is often behavioral change through suggestion. Yoga Nidra maintains a clear framework of conscious self-awareness throughout; the practitioner is never "under" — they are witnessing their own experience with sustained awareness. Yoga Nidra also works through a systematic progression through the Pancha Koshas (five sheaths or layers of experience), which gives it a depth and completeness that hypnosis does not attempt.
