6 Ways to incorporate Wellness into your workplace

Corporate wellness programs have positive externality on (overall) wellbeing of the employees, it is a well established fact. If they are properly implemented they can do wonders by giving a conducive environment for employees to bloom by creating a healthy culture in your workplace. Not only does it become easier to work with them but also makes them more productive and less stressed. Here are some ways which are easy to incorporate and implement. Make your work-place a fun-place to work.

Can meetings be fun? Yes. If you can ditch/replace the office desk and chair of stuffy conference rooms with a different setup, maybe a park or a beach. It will give a much needed break to them, they will be more productive than they were in between 4 walls of office. Breaks should not be considered a luxury, sustaining an all-work-no-break approach can be very harmful. Walking meetings induce movement, improvement in blood circulation will lead to better ideas and spurs creativity because employees are in vicinity to nature, feeling fresh and active and not lethargic. You can start  by having at least one meeting outdoors in a week.

Many offices have a counter/corner of snacks, mostly munchies, chocolates, coffee and junk food to answer the craving-calls of employees. Well, this is good but good can always be made best. Replacing them with some healthy alternatives, thereby improving the nutritional habits of employees and eliminating mindless intake. In fact, go grab those healthy nutritional fruits, juices and nuts with your team from a local market. It is really important to have some downtime with your employees.

Everyone likes to celebrate what they have accomplished, it gives a sense of fulfillment and achievement and most importantly it gives impetus, it gives courage to accept future endeavours and tasks. Don’t hold back on praising them, acknowledge their extra efforts and extra time, don’t just let them go ignored. Offer rewards, they need not be monetary or something extravagant, a simple handwritten card is enough or write this on a designated board for writing down achievements. When employees feel involved they will not only work till the extent that is required but will go an extra mile, will put in more efforts and will come up with new ideas.

It sounds dreadful sitting at one place for hours 5 or 6 days a week. Inculcate fitness, it is time to get body moving, (some sweat dripping and blood pumping). We don’t mean giving them free gym memberships, providing them with a fitness tracker watch or asking them to run miles. In the name of wellness programs, employers are imposing new rules and new tasks which employees feel reluctant to take part in, some will come up with excuses if they are already fit. Ask them what they are interested in and do what you can, have fun with it. Relax and stretch together. Camping, hiking, outdoor circuits can be a great stress buster. Elope in nature, what can be more rejuvenating and refreshing than this ?

A team with high morale is always preferred over a team with no morale or no enthusiasm or motivation. Challenge your team at different levels and in different aspects. Set up volunteer programs, weekly activity contests, throw in some gamification of activities, impromptu dance or singing competitions.Inspire your team to push their limits and encourage participation. Peer involvement will create a chain reaction.

The sole objective is to look out for the needs of your employees, to ensure that there is nothing which is bothering them. Check-in regularly, give them an opportunity to talk and share and make sure you put on an approachable attitude.

Even small things can have positive spillover effects on overall working, leading to holistic changes that we wish to see and bring to our workplace. Make your team physically fit, emotionally strong and stable, mentally relaxed and peaceful, full of tranquillity and joy. Take conscious steps to incorporate a wellbeing program in your workplace.
